How to install Gate Wheels or Gate Casters?

Follow three easy steps to install Gate Wheel

First use a lever or some kind of jack to uplift your gate/ or at the end of the gate latch side end, so that the gate becomes parallel to the ground.

Second, put the bracket on at the latch side end and make sure you put the wheel touches the ground with it’s full force. Since, it is hard to adjust once it is installed, so make sure your proper measurement while installing it.

the four-inch is just right for rolling across prepared services such as concrete macadam or asphalt and supporting gates up to 125 pounds
the four inch caster consists of two parts.

 the upper part with the compression spring and the lower part with the heavy duty solid four inch roller that connects to the upper part with a grip ring stem like that and it swivels on ball bearings that are enclosed right there so it rides nice and smooth

the entire set has a heavy duty weather resistant zinc finish the set has a compression spring that allows the wheel to ride over slightly uneven surfaces and also accommodate slight differences in incline or grade.

Mounting holes are 10 millimetre diameter which is just perfect for 10 millimetre 3-8 inch or 5 16 inch bolts or screws even though number 12 or 14 sheet metal screws will work your best bet is to use a 5 16 or 3 8 inch bolt with a nut and washer to properly mount your gate caster

you’re going to want to put it right at the end of the gate and then compress the spring just a little bit and then mark the center of your holes where you’re going to put your screws

since we’re going to be using number 12 screws it’s a good idea to drill pilot holes first this way the screws are going much easier and they won’t crack the wood when you um open the box you’re going to see that the caster comes in two parts you have the spring mechanism bracket on the top

and then you have the wheel with a grip ring stem to assemble just simply insert the stem all the way in and now you’re good to go we’re using number 12 hex head screws here and we have a hex driver because this can be a high torque situation

the suggestion here is to mount the top screw first and then you can work the bottom one into place and get them all snugged up
we’ve used these number 12 hex head screws here but you could also very effectively use 3 8 inch or 5 16 inch nuts bolts and washers

okay now we’ve got our caster in place and as you can see it very effectively supports the lower corner of this gate
